THE CHURCH AT A CROSSROADS

Has Today’s church gone out of the script? Where has the church gone wrong? Who is to blame?

Multimedia University Journalism Club

Has the church forsaken Christ? This is among the questions that thinkers of modern times have to grapple with as evangelical ministries spring up at a rapid pace- And in this great race to inflate their congregations and win more followers, and even possibly the offering basket , the ‘modern church’ has been seen to adopt unorthodox ways of wooing the masses into their sermons.

Televangelism for instance has become among the most popular trends particularly for the houses of worship in urban settlements. While this incorporation of telecommunication technologies has indeed helped spread the gospel, the spanner comes into the works when half of the sermon is transformed into a frenzy of advertisements for the sale of DVD’s , CD’s and books authored by these men and women of the cloth. This scenario rings a bell dating back centuries when Jesus walked into the temple at Jerusalem only…

TRANSFER GOSSIP

By Maxwell Wasike, KBC Radio Sports Editor

BAYERN MUNICH are contemplating joining the hunt for unsettled Chelsea star Juan Mata with French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain also interested. German paper Bild understands Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Mata and is keen to bring his compatriot to the Allianz Arena. The 25-year-old has seen his first-team opportunities limited this season and is set for showdown talks with the Chelsea hierarchy after reacting furiously to being substituted in the win over Southampton on New Year’s Day.

Elsewhere at Emirates Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is showing a keen interest in signing Newcastle United Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon and is considering mounting a January 30m pounds bid for the pair. CaughtOffside understands that having failed with a summer bid for French midfielder Cabaye, said to be in the region of £10m, Wenger has continued to scout the former Lille man and is more eager than ever to land the stylish Magpies star. Away from that CHELSEA are firmly in the race to land St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma, that is according to the player’s agent. The 19-year-old rising star is thought to be worth around £10 million and was originally on Arsenal’s radar although interest later cooled.

Still at Stamford Bridge, the club are also hopeful of pulling off a deal to re-sign Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, aged 25, that could cost them 10 times the £3m he was valued at when used as a makeweight in the deal that brought defender David Luiz, to Chelsea three years ago. Meanwhile Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Chelsea in vying for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, with assistant coach Phil Neville flying out to Spain to monitor the 19-year-old’s current loan spell with Rayo Vallecano.

Moving on United’s hunt for fresh talent has also led to manager David Moyes being spotted in Italy, where he ran his eye over Cagliari defender Davide Astori, aged 27 and 26 year old Juventus midfield playmaker Arturo Vidal. Alternatively, Moyes was there to woo Juventus stylish midfielder Paul Pogba, back to Old Trafford, where he spent nearly three years as a teenager.

epl In other news Newcastle United Striker Papiss Cisse, may be about to leave Newcastle, but only if the unnamed club in Qatar chasing his signature add another £1m to their initial offer of £9m while West Ham have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, on a £90,000-week loan deal, with an option for a three-year permanent move in the summer if the Upton Park club stay in the Premier League as French defender Patrice Evra set to leave Manchester United when his contract ends in June.

And finally Norwich are close to signing Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez with the 30-year-old Argentine international already tweeting his goodbyes to the Toon Army.

GEDE CITY- DUBAI OF THOSE TIMES.

Image
A people like me yearn to one day to at least have a glimpse of Dubai city- one of the most developed and chief commercial centres on Earth. I can imagine this was happening to the people who were there in the 12th century. Located in the coastal region at Kilifi, 16 kilometers south of Malindi town is Gede monument, ruins of a Swahili town, one that I can call the Dubai of those times.

The town is said to have mushroomed in the 12th century. Like every other modern town that we know today, it accommodated both the rich and the poor in society. This is evidenced by the walls- the inner and the outer wall. The rich lived within the inner wall –Runda of those times while the poor lived between the outer and the inner wall (common residential areas where most people can afford).

By 15th century, the town had reached its peak hence was one of the richest towns in the East African coastline. There are several remains of the town comprising of mosques, a palace and several houses. The houses were made of coral reefs and had bathrooms and flushing toilets with drains. Since water is basic for life to exist, there were large wells for supplying water.

Though early 16th century, the town was getting abandoned. This is said to have happened because of diseases: plague, lack of water and punitive expedition from Mombasa against Malindi. It is not also clear whether the really name of the town was Gedi or Gede: a Galla name meaning ‘precious’ may have been given to the town after the last Galla leader who camped at the site.

The ruins are surrounded by a thick forest, where those who have a heart for wildlife can go and watch them. It is inhabited by mammals and birds and the most prominent ones are: Blue monkeys, yellow baboon, black and white colobus, red and blue duiker, ader’s duiker, suni black faced vervet monkey and bush baby.

Bird species are many and watchers will have the privilege to see the green pigeon, fisher’s turaco, brown-headed parrot, trumpeter hornbill, silvery-cheeked hornbill and the guinea fowl. The forest also acts as a sacred site for traditional rituals and sacrifices. Just make an appointment to visit the place and you won’t be disappointed.

Kate Middleton Pregnant

Image

Kate Middleton is pregnant with baby No. 2, new reports from the UK have claimed.

Kate and husband Prince William are still raising Prince George, who have just turned five months old, but reports say that Kate is already well on her way to giving her baby boy a sibling. The duchess has been seen twice in the past week stepping out with what witnesses say appears to be a baby bump.

Star Magazine is now reporting that Kate Middleton is three months pregnant, and is having a much easier go this time around. When she was pregnant with Prince George, Kate suffered a severe form of morning sickness that forced her to be hospitalized and treated for dehydration.

The story would appear to have some backing. Kate has made it clear that she and Prince William want a large family, saying she wants to have three children within five years, so a pregnancy now would make sense.

But if Kate Middleton is pregnant, it may not have been planned. If the rumored timeline is correct, then Kate would have gotten pregnant when George was two months old, just around the time it would have been safe for her and Prince William to start trying for a baby again. Rumors that Kate went through a bout of postpartum depression also add to evidence that the pregnancy may have been a surprise.

Indications are that Baby George is easy enough for Kate and William. He was on his best behavior at one of his few extended public appearances, his christening back in October.

“He was such a good boy actually. We were very lucky, he’s not always like that,” Kate said.

Though Prince George may be getting a sibling in 2014, the evidence that Kate Middleton is pregnant remains flimsy for the moment. Reports of a baby bump may be nothing more than ill-fitting clothing, and the royal palace will likely announce news as soon as there is something concrete to report.

Toothless man bites off neighbor’s penis

Adapted from Huffington Post

An English man with only a couple of teeth was found guilty this week of biting off his neighbor’s penis, Kent Online reported.

Jason Martin, 41, got into an altercation with 39-year-old Richard Henderson in their Kent neighborhood in July after Henderson sent Martin a text message asking him to turn down his music, according to the Daily Mail.

Martin bit down on Henderson’s penis through his pajamas so forcefully that it became detached, according to the Metro. It was later reattached with stitches.

“My willy was not attached to the rest of my body,” Henderson told the Canterbury Crown Court. “I have never experienced that kind of pain to this day and I don’t want to experience it ever again.”

Martin claims the allegations against him are impossible, telling the court, “I have only got a couple of teeth in the lower part of my mouth, I can’t even bite into a hard-boiled.” However, he does admit he has dentures, though he says they are only “for cosmetic reasons.”
